We work closely with researchers at Monash University, RMIT University and the Australian Housing and Urban research Institute to assist in understanding issues relating to housing markets, rental markets and housing affordability. Geocode's involvement relates to the cleaning and massaging of large property databases, and the incorporation of these into its own GIS property market mapping software. It is a three step process...

Step 1: Clean address information

  • Use in-house software to clean address information into a common form
  • Geocode in a way that deals with fuzzy geocodes

Step 2: Clean attribute information

  • Use in-house software to clean attribute information. Although there are numerous ways of representing property features, this stage ensures that only one description is used. For example, if one house has a "pool", and another house has a "swimming pool", they both have a "swimming pool".

Step 3: Mapping of various themes for including...

  • Price change
  • Affordability change
  • Activity
  • Interactions between market segments
